About Us

Awel Aman Tawe

Awel Aman Tawe (AAT) has over 20 years’ experience of researching, developing and delivering projects that address the climate emergency. Based in the Amman Valley in south Wales, we believe in driving forward a shift towards a greener, fairer economy and enabling communities to be more resilient. Working through Awel and Egni Co-ops, AAT staff have developed a community wind farm (Awel) and a portfolio of nearly 100 rooftop solar sites (Egni) that not only help generate cheaper, greener electricity, but also help to fund our education and arts programmes. We run a community EV transport scheme and our new eco-centre Hwb y Gors will be a sustainable hub for creatives, educators, entrepreneurs and the local community. The quality of our work has been recognised nationally and internationally by a growing number of prestigious awards.

Awel and Egni Co-ops

We have established two of the largest renewable energy co-operatives in the UK – Awel (our wind energy co-op) and Egni Co (our rooftop solar co-op). We have raised over £8 million in community shares to build….

Hwb y Gors

Hwb y Gors is our new co-working community hub with facilities for arts, education and enterprise. We will be opening in 2023. So watch this space!

Education

Our education programme ‘We are Energy Warriors’ engages primary and secondary age pupils in climate change and energy reduction. Through a series of bilingual workshops and experiences, pupils are empowered to:

  • take action to reduce energy consumption in school;
  • to be ambitious and ethical thinkers who care about Wales and the world
  • and to be enterprising, creative and confident in spreading their message.

Taith – our community transport scheme

Transport is a major issue in our area, with a very limited bus service. We operate an electric community transport scheme to help people to solve this problem and will be developing a car club. We focus our support on vulnerable groups such as people with learning difficulties, disabled people, carers and the elderly. We have an electric 7-seater with disabled access and car. We will have 4 charge points at Hwb y Gors. We also have a fleet of electric bikes. We work with other community transport schemes in south wales.
